Charles Eaton brings to Graves & King LLP nearly five years of federal trial attorney experience as well as a federal judicial clerkship background. Before joining the firm, Charles served as a Deputy Federal Public Defender in the Central District of California, where he handled the full range of complex federal criminal matters, including cartel and drug trafficking conspiracies, extradition, bank robbery, white collar fraud, child exploitation, and narcotics distribution resulting in death. His federal practice featured extensive motion work such as suppression motions, motions to dismiss, sentencing memoranda, and extradition briefing. He regularly argued contested motions before the district and magistrate judges of the Eastern Division.
Charles previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jesus G. Bernal of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. In chambers, he researched complex legal issues and drafted orders in civil rights, employment, and criminal matters; reviewed dispositive and non-dispositive motions; and assisted with trial preparation and bench trial proceedings.
Charles earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was named a Rubenstein Scholar and served as Comment Editor of the Chicago Journal of International Law. He also holds a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School, where he was a Marquand Scholar and received the Norenburg Prize for Excellence in Preaching, and a B.A. in Political Science from Oakwood University, where he graduated as Co-Salutatorian.
Beyond his legal practice, Charles serves as Interim Associate Pastor at Kansas Avenue Church in Riverside. He has volunteered as a personal statement editor and LSAT tutor for graduate school applicants since 2011.
